In the story, Hanta work at a paper compactor doing away with any and all books that com e his way. His plentifulness in life is almost quite literally to unload the words and ideas of men both dead and alive, work that those men most likely spent a good attend out of their life creating. Now, it is true that Hanta saves hundreds and hundreds of books, but those are only the books that he seems to deem as pricey of saving.

Sure, the classics are by all odds worth saving and carrying onto future generations, but who is to say that other works arent as important? What do the trials of thousands of authors and poets really amount of money to when theyre apparently put to a final judgement by a ma n who fancies himself an intellectual drunk?! Despite his effort to pull through what he sees as important, Hanta becomes himself no correct in the point than those that ordered the books to be bankrupted in the first place. Whether its the excerption to abolish all books or the choice to only destroy some books, Hanta and those in charge are taking it upon themselves to crystallize which books stay and which ones go.
